EYEWITNESS ACCOUNT OF CAR OFF CLIFF ON WEDNESDAY

Chelsea Good of The Roadrunner provides us with an eyewitness account of a car that went off the road on Old Castle Road near Pamoosa and down a cliff  Wednesday morning.

"I was following car since Highway 395 and Old Castle. Car had swerved over the white line several times upon approaching the turn in the road. Upon entering the turn the car just kept going straight and went right off the road.

The car brakes did not appear to be used and there was no evidence that the driver even attempted to turn the car. The car flew straight off the road and came to a sudden stop about 30 feet down when the back end of the vehicle flew straight up into the air and then came crashing down to the final resting place which was hidden very well among all the bushes.

Car was heading east on Old Castle and went off the road just south of Pamoosa Road shortly before the start of the construction work."

The car, a 4-door Mitsubishi sedan, came to rest about 30 feet off the road on top of a tree. Fire crews had to first stabilize the vehicle before extracting the driver from the car. They had to cut down two trees to reach him. A few minutes later they brought the car up.

According to Capt. Terry Heidmann of the Deer Springs Fire Protection District, the driver suffered moderate injuries with a broken wrist and a concussion and was taken to Palomar Medical Center.

Photos were taken by Chelsea Good and Ray Flores.
